Table Rugby

What is Table Rugby?

Table Rugby is an adapted version of rugby that is played on a table using a specially designed board, ball, and player pieces. It has been created to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their physical abilities, can take part in a team sport in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

The game focuses on simple skills such as passing, positioning, and teamwork, allowing pupils to take turns, make decisions, and work together to score tries. The rules can be easily adapted to suit the needs of each group, making it a flexible and inclusive activity for all learners.

Table Rugby provides a fun and supportive environment where every pupil can participate, feel involved, and experience success.

Why we use Table Rugby?

At Broadmeadow, we are committed to providing inclusive opportunities that allow every pupil to take part, achieve, and feel valued. Table Rugby supports this by removing many of the physical barriers often associated with traditional sports, while still promoting key skills and experiences.

Through Table Rugby, pupils are able to:

  • Develop communication and teamwork skills
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Practice turn-taking and decision-making
  • Experience being part of a team environment
  • Engage in a structured activity that can be adapted to meet individual needs

The game also supports pupils’ social and emotional development by encouraging cooperation, celebrating achievements, and creating opportunities for positive interaction with others.

Most importantly, Table Rugby allows all pupils to enjoy sport in a way that is accessible, engaging, and rewarding.
